Getting Ready to Sell - Power Washing and Painting

Although in the past we have always rented a power washer when we wanted one (less to store) with our upcoming move a power washer will come in handy.


Shawn wore a rain jacket and pants to do the power washing. I think he also needs a face shield.


Getting Ready to Sell - Floors

The high traffic areas in both the hallway and the master bedroom were so tired that the finish was worn thought to bare wood. Not something that would be OK to leave, we needed to fix the floors before we listed the house. After removing all of the (really heavy) furniture from the master bedroom, we were off to Home Depot for a floor sander and Varathane.
The sanding took a couple of hours and the Varathane took 1/2 an hour to apply each coat with a two-hour wait between coats. We waited an extra day after the third coat, just to make sure it was dry, before moving the furniture back in. What a difference, I wish we had taken the time to fix up the floors years ago!

Getting Ready to Sell - Decks

The large deck at the back of the house was being supported in two places with concrete blocks and the little deck off the kitchen was in desperate need of some paint.

We started by removing the rotten boards from the back deck. Our initial thought was that some of the support beams could be reused on the new deck. No such luck. All of the decking and beams were far too rotten to reuse.
